John
born
in darkness
bore
witness to the light
a
spark of hope in the deep of night
he
saw the light and felt its warmth
preaching by the riverside
eating honey in the wild
he baptized Jesus
who was the water of life
John
man
of the desert
herald
and prophet
repentant…angelic
The
way is not in
stillness or silence
as John preached it
The
way is found in loving
service
as Jesus showed us
John…was comforted by Sophia
By Ruha…he was bathed in living flame
while
Salome danced for her father
and the soldiers came to cut off
his head
John
lived near to the Jordan
he was not perplexed by his fate
once he had turned toward the
divine
he was not tempted to turn away
